BayBears Return Home After 8-3 Win on Sunday

BIRMINGHAM, AL -- The Mobile BayBears took the series finale against the Birmingham Barons with a 8-3 win Sunday afternoon at Regions Field. The win was Mobile's eighth in the last 10 games and the 11th victory in the last 15 games played. With the win and the Montgomery Biscuits off on Sunday, the BayBears now have a two game lead on the Biscuits for first place in the Southern League South Division. There are now 40 games left first half of the Southern League season.
Mobile scored first on Sunday with a RBI single from Jake Lamb. In the fourth inning, the BayBears put up four runs starting with a RBI double from Sean Jamieson. After Garrett Weber's two-run double drove in Jameson and Steve Rodriguez, David Peralta capped off the offensive outburst with a towering two-run homer to right.
Jamieson doubled again in the fifth inning to drive in another run. The BayBears shortstop finished the day going 4-for-5 with three of the hits being doubles, he also scored the one run and drove in two more.
Weber finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI while Mike Freeman extended his hit streak to 12 games going 1-for-6 with a RBI. In all, the BayBears eight runs were scattered over 14 hits with Jamieson, Weber and Lamb's two hits counting for more than half of the BayBears base knocks on Sunday.
RHP Bradin Hagens pitched four scoreless innings to begin the game before RHP Justin Fitzgerald came on in relief to begin the fifth frame. Fitzgerald earned the win (1-0) after pitching a scoreless fifth and sixth inning before allowing all three Barons' runs on six hits while striking out three.
Mobile took four of the five games from Birmingham and now the BayBears return home for a five game series with the Mississippi Braves beginning Monday, May 5, at 7:05 PM. To start the five game set, Mobile will send RHP A.J. Schugel to the mound (2-0, 2.96) against M-Braves RHP Aaron Northcraft (2-1, 3.24).
