Mobile BayBears News Release

Jackson, Tenn. – The Mobile BayBears were coming off of a 3-1 homestand as they headed north to take on the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx. Unfortunately, they ran into the number one pitching prospect in the Chicago Cubs' minor league system, Angel Guzman. The Diamond Jaxx used a great start from their ace to defeat the BayBears in the series opener, 6-2. The right-hander limited the BayBears to two runs on four hits in his six and two-thirds innings of work.

"He was very impressive," BayBears manager Craig Colbert said. "He was consistently at 92-94 (miles per hour) on his fastball and also had a great breaking ball. He's a guy that's going to do some good things at a high level."

The BayBears runs both came on solo homeruns. Jon Knott hit his league-leading 15th leading off the top of the second inning. Rico Washington added his seventh homer in the top of the sixth. That would be all of the offense for the BayBears.

The loss fell on BayBears' starter Steve Watkins (4-4) who allowed six runs (five earned) in six and one-third innings on 11 hits.

The Diamond Jaxx used three doubles in the third frame, scoring twice, to break a 1-1 tie. West Tenn broke open a 4-2 game in the in the seventh on a two-run double by Ray Sadler, winning 6-2.

The series will continue Tuesday night at 7:05. Chris Oxspring (2-2; 3.48) will start on the mound for the BayBears against West Tenn's Travis Anderson (2-1; 3.60).
