Mobile BayBears News Release
Mobile, Ala. â The mobile BayBears entered the ninth inning with a 1-0 lead and their closer on the mound. However, the Jacksonville Suns were not done. Brennan King hit the first pitch he saw from Rusty Tucker over the wall in left tying the game 1-1.
Neither team would score in the next four innings. Then the Suns Victor Diaz greeted Mobile reliever Brad Baker with a first pitch homerun in the top of the 14th inning. The 2-1 loss marks the BayBears' seventh straight loss in extra innings this season.
The loss also wasted a great start by Roger Deago. The left-hander threw six and one-third shutout innings giving up seven hits. His defense was there for him time and again, turning three double plays and Vince Faison doubled up Diaz at the plate in the sixth with a strike from left field.
The BayBears and Suns completed their suspended game from Saturday night earlier in the day. Chris Rojas threw six pitches, got three outs, and the game was over. The BayBears won the contest, 15-9, to sweep the double-header.
The 15 runs marked a season high for Mobile. Four BayBears batters had three hits â Jon Knott, Jake Gautreau, Vince Faison, and Yamid Haad. Haad collected four RBI, Knott and Faison had three RBI each. Knott also hit his league-leading 14th homerun and Bobby Scales added his second.
The BayBears now head to Jackson, Tennessee to begin a four-game series with the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx. They will return home on Friday to wrap-up the first half of the Southern League season against the Orlando Rays with former Atlanta Braves' closer John Rocker.
