BayBears Blank Barons to Win Sixth Straight Road Game

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, needed just one run to win their third straight game over the Birmingham Barons 1-0 Saturday night at Regions Field.

Jason Alexander tossed six scoreless innings for the BayBears (55-54 overall, 18-23 second half) in a no-decision. He gave up four hits in the first three innings before retiring the final 11 batters he faced. Ryan Clark (2-2) earned the win in relief, and Greg Mahle stranded a pair of runners in the ninth to record his third save.

Dylan Cease also pitched six scoreless innings for the Barons (54-57, 22-21). He struck out nine batters and allowed just one baserunner, coming on a two-out single in the third.

The BayBears finally broke the scoreless tie in the top of the eighth. Brandon Sandoval collected his second hit of the game, stole his second base of the game, and scored on Jahmai Jones' two-out single off Matt Foster (0-3).

Mobile leads the Southern League with 11 shutout victories and has won a season-high six consecutive road games.

The BayBears continue the five-game road series against Birmingham Sunday at 3:00 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Alex Klonowski (7-2, 4.65 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against southpaw Kodi Medeiros (7-5, 3.06 ERA) for the Barons.
