Birmingham Barons News Release
BIRMINGHAM, AL â Four BayBears hurlers combined to shutout the Barons 5-0 to even the four-game series at one game apiece on Monday evening at the Hoover Met in front of 2,317 fans.
Mobile took an early 2-0 lead in the fourth against Barons starter Brian West (0-1) after Khalil Greene lead off the inning with a monster home run to left-centerfield and Jon Knott launched a solo bomb of his own. The BayBears would add on a single run in the seventh on a Luis Lorenzana RBI single and two more insurance runs in the eighth on a two-run homer by Jake Gautreau.
Mobile starter Brad Baker was only able to go 4.2 innings but his bullpen picked him up with 4.1 innings of scoreless relief to preserve the shutout and the win. The Baybear pitching staff struck out 10 Barons batters on the evening and walked five. Mobile reliever Ian Harvey (1-0) picked up the victory after throwing 1.1 scoreless innings.
The Barons continue the series with Mobile tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 with game three of the four-game series. Birmingham sends out LHP Neal Cotts (2-0, 0.00) to face BayBears LHP Corey Stewart (0-1, 5.00).
