Jacksonville, Fla.- Caonabo Cosme misplayed a groundball from Jesus Feliciano in the thirteenth inning allowing the tying and winning runs to score as Jacksonville (7-6) outlasted Tennessee (7-6) 5-4 Wednesday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Kevin Sprague (0-1) suffered the loss and Scott Proctor (1-0) earned the win.
The Smokies took a 4-3 lead in the top of the thirteenth on a solo home run by Bucky Jacobsen, but poor defense hurt Tennessee twice.
Tennessee got an RBI double from Caonabo Cosme and a two run single from Dennis Abreu to score three times in the seventh and take a 3-1 lead against Suns starter Heath Totten.
Jacksonville rallied with two runs in the ninth inning to tie. Reliever Juan Figueroa walked the bases loaded with one out before gving way to B.R. Cook. Cook induced Jason Repko to ground to third, but Chris Weekly's throw sailed into the stands to allow two runs to score on the first of two costly errors.
The Smokies and Suns conclude their series Thursday night at 7:05. Nick Stocks (1-0, 2.45) will start against the Suns Edwin Jackson (0-1, 4.00).
