Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-Waterloo Black Hawks players and fans will be pitted against each other to benefit a good cause Sunday, November 15th during the inaugural "Battle the Black Hawks" event at Maple Lanes Bowling Center on University Avenue.
The competition is a fundraiser for Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity and is open to participants of all ages. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Waterloo players will trade their skates for bowling shoes and matchup against fans to play Maple Lanes' specialty Mad Game, Battle of the Lanes. In the process, everyone in attendance will have the opportunity to win prizes from the team, Maple Lanes, and Habitat for Humanity's new ReStore. Registration (including shoe rental) is $15 for adults, $10 for kids age 18 and under, and begins immediately.
"My average might not 'bowl' anyone over, but this is going to be a great time whether you go to the bowling alley every week or just once in awhile," said Black Hawks Vice President of Sales and Marketing Joe Greene. "Come out to meet the team; strikes, spares, or gutter balls, you'll never have more fun doing something good for the community."
Battle of the Lanes is one of several bowling-based interactive competitions available at Maple Lanes. In the game, two side-by-side lanes are represented on scoring monitors as medieval castles. The object is to destroy the opposing team's castle; after each frame a rock is catapulted from one screen to the other. The size of the rock to be fired is determined by the number of pins knocked down in the frame.
Fans can register at the Waterloo Black Hawks' offices in Young Arena, the Express Employment Professionals Fan Service Table on game nights, the Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity office located at 803 W. 5th Street in Waterloo, or at Maple Lanes on the morning of November 15th, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Maple Lanes is located at 2608 University Avenue in Waterloo. For more information, call the Black Hawks at (319) 232-3444.
