
Battery Set for Whitecaps

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery takes on the Vancouver Whitecaps Wednesday night (May 28) at Blackbaud Stadium; gates open at 6:30 PM, kick off is set for 7:30 PM ($8 - $15, 971-GOAL / charlestonbattery.com). The Battery (5-1-2, 17 points) enters the game in first place in the USL First Division, Vancouver (4-2-1, 13 points) is tied with the Minnesota Thunder for second position.
Charleston has won five games in a row; the most recent was a 2-0 victory versus the Atlanta Silverbacks in a game played last Saturday night at Blackbaud Stadium. Randi Patterson and Aaron King scored the goals. Patterson's first-half strike was his league-leading sixth of the year.
This is the first of three meetings between the teams in 2008. Charleston travels to Vancouver for a match on July 23 before Vancouver returns to Blackbaud Stadium for the final game on Sunday, August 3.
In 2007 Charleston tied Vancouver 0-0 in the game played at Blackbaud Stadium and lost 0-1 in the return match played in Vancouver.
Vancouver's most recent result was a 1-0 win versus the Portland Timbers in a game played last Saturday night in Portland; forward Vicente Arze scored the lone goal. The Whitecaps win ended an unbeaten streak for the Timbers at home that extended back to September 2006.
Vancouver installed Teitur Thordarson as its new head coach during the off-season. The Icelandic native was most recently coach of Reykjavik FC.
