Battery hosts Jamaica's Village United Saturday night at Blackbaud Stadium

Charleston SC. The Charleston Battery hosts the Wray & Nephew Jamaican Premier League side Village United in a pre-season exhibition this Saturday night, April 15 at Blackbaud Stadium; gates open at 6:30 PM kick off is set for 7:30 PM. The game is Charleston's final home pre-season match before the start of the USL First Division season on April 29. The Battery signed Village United & Jamaican men's national team defender, Shane Crawford last week; Crawford will play for the Charleston Battery in the international exhibition.

Charleston Battery head coach, Mike Anhaeuser,

"We are excited to bring a Jamaican Premier League team to Charleston to showcase more international soccer to the Lowcountry fans. Village United is fighting for third position in a difficult league and should be a great test towards the culmination of our pre season."

The game versus Village United is Charleston's final home match before the regular season; tickets are only $10 general admission, 2006 season ticket holders can purchase seats for $5, there will be no charge for children 14 years and under and no charge for parking. The event will also feature a massive Easter Egg hunt on the stadium field at half-time; gates open at 6:30 PM - kick off is set for 7:30 PM. Saturday's game vs Village United replaces the previously scheduled scrimmage vs the Charlotte Eagles.

Village United is currently in 4th place in the Wray & Nephew Jamaican Premier League with three games remaining. Village were promoted in 2000 after winning the Jamaican National A League and have been in the Wray & Nephew Jamaican Premier League ever since.

Village United's roster includes several Jamaican internationals including Newton Sterling and Teofore Bennett. United also has several former Jamaican internationals including Nicardo Folkes, Athol Franklyn and Kirk Hendricks and one Liberian international, Edmund Kingston.

The Charleston Battery home opener is set for Saturday, April 29 versus the Virginia Beach Mariners. Gates open at 6:30 PM with kick off set for 7:30 PM. Tickets are just $8 - $15, call 971-GOAL or visit www.charlestonbattery.com.

Battery's Daley featured in USA vs Jamaica friendly

Charleston Battery midfielder Omar Daley played the full ninety minutes for Jamaican men's national team in their match last Tuesday versus the US. The game finished in a 1-1 tie. Daley played at right-back for the Reggae Boyz, primarily marking US forward Landon Donavon.

Daley, 5-10, 170 lbs., 25 yrs has 21 caps for Jamaica and has scored 9 goals.
