
Battery battles Timbers Sunday at Blackbaud

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery battles the Portland Timbers this Sunday at Blackbaud Stadium; gates open at 5 PM with kick off set for 6 PM ($8 - $15, 971-GOAL / www.charlestonbattery.com). The Battery (5-8-5, 20 points) will be looking for its first league win since June 22; Portland (10-2-3, 33 points) enters the game in first place in the USL First Division.
Charleston dropped a pair of games in Puerto Rico last weekend losing 3-1 on Friday night and 4-3 in the second game played on Sunday evening. The Battery's last league win came on June 22, a 1-0 victory versus the Atlanta Silverbacks in a game played at Blackbaud Stadium.
Despite not having won in the league since June 22 the Battery is unbeaten at Blackbaud Stadium in all competitions since June 7. Charleston knocked the current MLS champions, the Houston Dynamo out of the US Open Cup with a 1-0 win at Blackbaud Stadium on July 10.
Portland defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 on Thursday evening in a game played at PGE Park in Portland; forwards Andrew Gregor and Lawrence Olum scored for the Timbers as they came from behind to defeat Vancouver.
Charleston will be without the services of defender Brandon Curran and midfielder Stephen Armstrong on Sunday. Both players will be serving a one game suspension for yellow card accumulation.

It's Tour de France night on Sunday at Blackbaud with a special bicycle race at half time on the stadium field. Fans can also enjoy $2 drafts until kick off in the Bud Light Beer Garden. US Open Cup Quarterfinal - Charleston Battery vs MLS's FC Dallas
The Charleston Battery advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2007 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup with a 1-0 OT win versus MLS's Houston Dynamo. Charleston now faces a second MLS side, FC Dallas, in the quarterfinals at Blackbaud Stadium on Tuesday, August 7.
