Indianapolis Indians News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Left fielder Drew Anderson and first baseman Kevin Barker each launched long balls and combined to drive in five runs as Louisville took down Indianapolis 6-4 in front of 10,517 Sunday evening at Louisville Slugger Field.
The Bats improve to 88-55 overall and 44-27 at home, while the Indians fall to 67-66 on the season and 30-41 on the road. The win is the second straight for Louisville over Indianapolis and improves their overall record to 12-9 against the Tribe this season.
Anderson and Barker were the offensive spark for the Bats, combining to go 3-for-7 with two runs, two home runs and all five of the team's RBI. Anderson was also the only Bat to collect multiple hits.
Anderson started the scoring for Louisville in the fourth with an RBI double that plated 3B Adam Rosales. He then brought the Bats within one in the sixth inning with his eighth homer of the season, a solo shot to right center.
Barker then came through with the game's big blow in the seventh, plating CF Drew Stubbs and Rosales with a three-run bomb to left center field. The long ball for the former Indian was his 21st of the season and his seventh against his former team this year.
Louisville added an important insurance in the eighth, when RF Rob Mackowiak singled and eventually trotted home on an Indianapolis miscue.
Bats starter Adam Pettyjohn (7.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) went seven strong innings to pick up his International League leading 15th victory of the season. In relief, RHP Justin Lehr (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER) picked up his third hold of the season, while RHP Jon Adkins notched his International League leading 30th save.
The Tribe jumped out to an early lead with single runs in second, third and fourth innings. 2B Brian Bixler and CF Andrew McCutchen each collected RBI singles in the second and third, before LF Chris Duffy roped an RBI double in the fourth.
C Ronny Paulino brought the Indians to within one, singling to lead off the eighth, before trotting on a Louisville wild pitch.
Duffy (3-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI), McCutchen (2-for-3, 1 RBI) and Bixler (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) all collected multiple hits for Indianapolis.
Tribe starter Mike Thompson (5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) went five strong innings but did not figure in the decision as reliever Romulo Sanchez (1.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, O BB, 0 SO) took the loss to drop to 5-1 on the season.
Indianapolis wraps up the 2008 season on Monday at 1:05 p.m. RHP Daniel McCutchen is scheduled to start for the Indians, while LHP Bobby Livingston is expected to get the nod for the Bats.
The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 12:45 p.m.
