Louisville Bats News Release
MOOSIC, Pa. - The Louisville Bats (39-61) defeated the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (57-43) by a 7-4 score Sunday afternoon at PNC Field. The win for the Bats gives them the series win and also a winning record on the road trip.
Louisville's offense tied a season-high with five home runs in the series finale, with five different players hitting them. Stuart Turner and Narciso Crook went back-to-back in the third inning, Turner's first of the season and Crook's fourth in his last five games.
After the RailRiders scored a run in the bottom of the third, Louisville got that run right back, with Blake Trahan hitting a solo shot in the fourth. Trahan's second homer in as many games makes it the first time in his career that he's homered in back-to-back contests. Aristides Aquino (24) and Scott Schebler (5) went deep for the Bats in the sixth, making it the fourth time this season that Louisville's hit five homers in a game.
Benefitting from all of the run support, right-hander Keury Mella (6-10, 4.77) got the win in a very impressive showing on the mound. He went 6.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and two home runs, walking four and striking out three on 99 pitches, 61 strikes. Mella's third consecutive quality start makes him and Lucas Sims the only Louisville pitchers to do that this season.
The RailRiders trailed 7-1 and almost made it a game by scoring three runs, one in the sixth and two in the ninth, to make it a 7-4 final. Louisville relievers Jackson Stephens and Brad Markey combined for 3.0 innings out of the bullpen, allowing Scranton to score a pair of runs but never bring the tying run up to the plate.
The Bats will try to build on their momentum with a six-game homestand coming up after tomorrow's off day. The Gwinnett Stripers come to Louisville Slugger Field to start a three-game set on Tuesday.
