Keene Swamp Bats News Release

The Keene Swamp Bats dropped a 5-1 decision to the Valley Blue Sox on Tuesday night at MacKenzie Stadium.

Keene drops to 14-17 on the year, while Valley improves to 11-22.

The Blue Sox jumped ahead early as Storm Wilson (Kentucky) delivered a two-run bloop single to open up a 2-0 lead in the home half of the second.

Jarred Mederos (St. John's) delivered a sac fly to cut the lead in the half in the top of the third, scoring Taylor Perez (St. Leo) who singled to lead off the top of the third, but that was the closest the Swamp Bats would get.

Valley added a run in the bottom of the third on a sac fly by Bobby Stahel (USC) that plated Angelo La Bruna (USC) to make it 3-1.

Keene starter Alec Bettinger (Virginia) lasted five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits, walking three and striking out three. He was charged with the loss and is now 1-1 on the season.

Valley would add a pair of insurance runs in the sixth and eighth. In the sixth inning, Dylan Delso (TCU) drove in the first of his two runs on the night with an RBI double that scored Garrett Black (Ohio) from first base.

Delso came through again in the eighth with an RBI single scoring Stahel and accounting for the fifth and final run of the night for the Blue Sox.

The Swamp Bats had seven hits in the game, led by Bret Dennis (St. John's) who was 2-4. However, they left eight men on base.

Joe DiBenedetto (Seton Hall) made his first start of the season and was very strong on the mound for Valley, throwing the first seven innings and allowing one run on six hits, walking two and striking out five. DiBenedetto is now 2-1 on the season.

Kyle Rasmussen (West Hills College) picked up the save in two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, giving up one hit and striking out Perez to end the game.

Keene will look to bounce back as they host the Ocean State Waves tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. in the first game of a four game home stand.
