Bats Fall in Extras, 3-2

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Louisville Bats were unable to secure the series win, falling in a matinee matchup with the Indianapolis Indians, 3-2 in 11 innings. The Bats stranded seven base runners and were 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
The Indians got on the board quickly, as first baseman Josh Bell launched a home run to deep right field, giving Indianapolis a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
The Bats struck back in the seventh and took a brief lead. Left fielder Kyle Waldrop and shortstop Carlos Triunfel each singled, and both came around to score. Waldrop scored on a sac fly from catcher Rafael Lopez, while Triunfel came around on a throwing error on a bunt by right handed pitcher Robert Stephenson. Louisville led 2-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh.
Unfortunately that lead didn't last long, as left fielder Jose Osuna led off the bottom of the inning with a home run to left field, tying the game at two.
The game went to extras and the Indians pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the 11th. Bell led off with a single and scored on a sac fly off the bat of center fielder Danny Ortiz. Right hander Drew Hayes (2-2, 4.20) took the loss, throwing the final two and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and the winning run, striking out one.
Stephenson received a no-decision, throwing six and one-third innings, the 12th time in 15 outings he has gone at least six innings. He allowed four hits, two runs (both on solo home runs), walking four and striking out eight.
Right hander Dovydas Neverauskas (1-1, 2.08) earned the win. He pitched one inning, allowing one hit and struck out one.
The Bats return home tomorrow night for a brief two game homestand against Columbus, the final two games at Louisville Slugger Field before the All-Star break. The Bats will have right hander Homer Bailey (0-1, 6.75) on the mound, while the Clippers will counter with left hander Shawn Morimando (0-0, 4.91, with Cleveland).
