Bulls Take Series Finale from Chiefs

Durham, NC - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Durham Bulls, 11-2, Wednesday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Chiefs scored first for an eighth-straight game, but the Bulls scored 11 runs in a row for their first win of the series. Christopher Bostick hit his second Chiefs home run in the loss.

Syracuse (39-47) grabbed a first inning run with another Trea Turner started rally. Turner doubled to lead off the frame, stole third, and scored on Brian Goodwin's groundout to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.

Durham (38-50) tied the score in the bottom of the second. Richie Shaffer walked against A.J. Cole and stole second. Three batters later, Luke Maile doubled home Shaffer to square the game.

The Bulls added another run in the third. Eury Perez doubled off Cole and scored two batters later on Taylor Motter's double for a 2-1 lead.

Durham broke the game open in the fourth. Cole walked Dayron Varona to start the inning. Jake Goebbert then doubled to put runners on second and third. Varona then scored on Cole's ninth wild pitch of the year for a 3-1 edge. After Maile walked, Jake Hager singled in Goebbert for a 4-1 Bulls lead. Cole struck out Perez, but Jaff Decker followed with a three-run home run over the Blue Monster in left for a 7-1 advantage. Syracuse went to the bullpen and Aaron Laffey came in and walked Motter. Shaffer then capped the inning with an RBI double for an 8-1 Bulls lead.

The Bulls added three more in the ninth against Nick Masset. Mayo Acosta hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Maile who had doubled for a 9-1 Bulls lead. Perez then singled, Decker walked, and Motter drove in both runs with a double for an 11-1 lead.

Bostick capped the scoring in the ninth with his second Chiefs home run against Danny Farquhar to make the score 11-2.

Syracuse opens its final series before the All-Star break Thursday night in Norfolk. Taylor Hill is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Mike Wright for the Tides. First pitch at Harbor Park is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
