Batista, Roadrunners Pound Colts

SAN ANGELO, Texas---Wilson Batista hit three home runs becoming the second player to do so in United League history helping the Edinburg Roadrunners defeat the San Angelo Colts 11-4 Tuesday night at Foster Field.

Edinburg continues to hold on to a one half game lead on the Amarillo Dillas, who won Tuesday night, for first place in the United League standings.

The Roadrunners (46-31) got on the board against Brett Bukvich (0-2) in the top of the first. Wilmer Pino started the game with a single and then stole second base. Felix Molina then hit an RBI double scoring Pino to give Edinburg the 1-0 lead.

Wilson Batista led off the top of the fourth with his first home run of the game, a solo shot, making it 2-0 Roadrunners.

In the top of the fifth, Pino led off with a walk then moved to third on a Molina single. Nelson Teilon followed with an RBI ground out that allowed Pino to score. A fielding error allowed Daryl Jones to reach and Molina to score from second. Batista then hit his second home run of the game, this time a two-run home run, extending the Roadrunners lead 6-0.

Osiel Flores hit a one-out double to start the top of the sixth and then came into score on an RBI double by Pino making it 7-0 Edinburg.

The Colts (38-41) got their first run against Mark DiBernardo in the bottom of the sixth. Jason Landreth led off with a walk. After singles by Jason Crosland and Joshua Collazo, Landreth came into score on an RBI single by Landon Camp cutting the Roadrunners lead 7-1.

With one out in the top of the seventh, Jones hit a double and then one out later came into score on an RBI single by Caros Hereaud extending Edinburg's lead 8-1.

Pino, who went 4-for-5 on Tuesday, led off the top of the eighth with a solo home run to deep left field making it 9-1 Edinburg.

Back-to-back home runs in the top of the ninth by Batista, his third, and Hereaud gave the Roadrunners a couple of insurance runs making it 11-1.

San Angelo scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth against Alexis Hernandez but Carlos Rangel came in to get the final three outs giving Edinburg the 11-4 victory.

DiBernardo (7-5) picked up his seventh win of the season after pitching seven innings and allowing one run on seven hits while striking out eight.

The Roadrunners and Colts will play the final game of this four-game series Wednesday night at Foster Field. Aaron Guerra (5-1) is expected to face Ezequiel Astacio (6-6) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
