Bassit Dominant Again as Barons Top Generals

Birmingham, Ala. - Behind the arm of Chris Bassitt, the Birmingham Barons captured their second win in a row, defeating the Jackson Generals 3-1 in front of 1,169 fans at Generals Park.

After Jackson took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a wild pitch by starter Chris Bassitt (2-0, 0.75), the Barons responded with an RBI single by Michael Earley in the second inning, which tied the game at 1-1.

The run would be the only one scored against Bassitt in the game as he finishedwith six hits allowed and eight strikeouts over 7.0 IP. He has 19 strikeouts over his last two outings and lowered his season ERA to 0.75.

The score would remain knotted until the sixth where an RBI singe by Daniel Wagner scored Jeremy Farrell from third base giving the Barons their first lead of the night at 2-1. They'd add a key insurance run in the seventh on a lineout by Rangel Ravelo scoring Josh Richmond from third base.

Jefferson Olacio (H, 1) and Nestor Molina (S, 6) combined to hold the Generals scoreless over the final 2.0 innings as the Barons improved to 54-70 on the season and 25-29 in the second half while Jackson fell to 56-67 on the year and 25-29 in thesecond half.

The Barons will look to win their third game in a row tomorrow night in the series finale as RHP Myles Jaye (3-10, 5.86) takes the hill against LHP Tyler Pike (3-2, 7.46). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM CDT.
