Bases Loaded Walk Sinks Claws in 9th

SALISBURY, MD - Conor Bierfeldt, who hit the game-tying home run in the bottom of the 8th inning, drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 9th to drive home the winning run as Delmarva topped the BlueClaws 4-3 on Monday night at Perdue Stadium.

It was the second walk-off loss for the BlueClaws this year and dropped Lakewood to 17-19 on the season. Delmarva improved to 20-17 after winning the first of 24 meetings with the BlueClaws in 2015.

Bierfeldt, who leads the league in RBIs with 34, tied the game with a home run in the 8th off Will Morris. In the 9th, after an intentional walk to Steve Wilkerson loaded the bases, Bierfeldt drew a walk from Austin Davis (0-2) to give Delmarva the win.

Trailing 2-0, the BlueClaws got a run in the 4th inning on an RBI single by Deivi Grullon. Grullon drove in another run with a groundout in the 6th inning to tie the game before Tromp's RBI double put the BlueClaws ahead 3-2.

Starter Ricardo Pinto went six for Lakewood, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out five.

Delmarva starter John Means gave up three runs in 5.2 innings and got a no-decision. LHP Donnie Hart (1-0) got the last two outs for Delmarva and got the win.

Carlos Tocci, Malquin Canelo, and Rhys Hoskins had two hits apiece for the BlueClaws.

The series continues on Tuesday night. LHP Josh Taylor (2-2) starts for Lakewood against Delmarva LHP Brian Gonzalez (2-1).
