PL Rocky Mountain Vibes

Baseball Overhaul - the Roster

June 21, 2022 - Pioneer League (PL)
Rocky Mountain Vibes News Release

Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Vibes made a series of moves to bolster the team after a slow start to the season. The team made a flurry of moves on Tuesday, revamping the roster, coaching staff, and organizational structure.

The Vibes will now have control of player transactions, being able to dip into the Monclova system and sign their own players the same way other Pioneer League teams can. Following the road series against the Boise Hawks, there were 23 active players on the Vibes roster. Of those 23 only 12 of those players are still active on the roster. Pitchers Tommy Caulfield, Hector Figueroa, Miguel Pozo, Yohandry Perez, Felipe Rodriguez, Jesus Valenzuela, infielders Ulysses Cantu and Brandon Perez, outfielders Gio Diaz, Domonique Hernandez, and Miguel Tejada Jr. were all retained.

Rocky Mountain returned nine players to the Monclova Academy: Pitchers Garrett Alvarez, Jose Mora, Johnny Morell, Jesus Rios, catchers Julian Lara and Jesus Rabago, infielders Dalys Binder and Paul Carreño, and outfielder Joshua Esparza. INF Caleb Marquez was placed on the 10-Day injured list and C Eder Rosales was placed on the inactive list.

Joining the Vibes roster are 13 free agent signings:

7 pitchers: RHP Pete Bayer, LHP Seth Davis, RHP Nathan Draves, RHP Brett Erwin, RHP Greyson Fletcher, LHP Armando Valle

2 catchers: C Josh Glenn, C Luis Navarro

3 infielders: INF Mike Annone, INF Joseph Encarnacion, INF Andrew Hanson

2 outfielders: OF Pedro Alfonseca, OF Cesar Lopez

The new roster stands at 25 players with 3 on the inactive list (Jaasiel Ochoa, Caleb Marquez, Eder Rosales). Rocky Mountain also finalized a trade with Glacier and are set to acquire LHP Chris Allen and RHP Brock Knoten in exchange for two players to be named later. The two players are expected to arrive on Thursday.

"We are really excited for what the rest of the season has in store for us," says Assistant General Manager Aaron Griffith. "Obviously whenever you have turnover of this caliber it calls for decisions to be made, sometimes tough decisions, and this is the tough part of the business of baseball. We want to win and Joe and Dave share that attitude. We want to make the playoffs and these changes will put us in a place where the club is in a better position to fight for it. I think the fans will really enjoy what is to come."

The Vibes begin a two-game series away against the Northern Colorado Owlz starting tonight, then return home to face the Owlz in a weekend series starting June 24. For tickets, call the box office at (719) 597-1449 or visit the website at vibesbaseball.com
