Barths Honored for 10 Years of Ownership

Florence RedWolves News Release

Florence County Council members honored Florence RedWolves owners Kevin Barth and his wife, Donna, with a resolution of recognition for their 10 years as owners of the Florence RedWolves baseball organization Thursday.

"I had no idea what they had in mind," Barth told Charles Tomlinson of SCnow.com after the presentation. "My wife and I, we were very honored and humbled and appreciative of that resolution."

Further, he went on to pass along the accomplishment to the people who have made great contributions to the team, including general manager Jamie Young, all of the players and their host families, and the fans.

Two former players, Barrett Kleinknecht of the Atlanta Braves and Nick Liles of the San Francisco Giants, were on hand for the Barths' recognition.

When the RedWolves open the 2011 Coastal Plain League season in May, Barth hopes to attract more families to games at Legion Field.

"The big hope for this season is that we can get over the hump and win the championship instead of being runner-up, like we've done three times," he said.

The Florence RedWolves are members of Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 15th season, The Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer. The CPL has had over 800 alumni drafted and 39 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
