Bart Starr Donates Packers Memorabilia To Blizzard For Hurricane Relief Effort

Green Bay Blizzard News Release

In their effort to raise funds for Hurricane Katrina Relief, the Green Bay Blizzard has truly pulled out all the stops. From bringing in the Southern University Marching Band to teaming up with the Donald Driver Foundation to distributing empty Morning Glory Dairy "Grip It. Sip It." chocolate milk bottles, the team is doing everything it can to raise both money and awareness to help the people affected by last year's storms. But as much as the Blizzard can do, it is still a group effort, and lately it seems everyone is getting in on the cause. Green Bay Packers legend and NFL Hall of Fame QB Bart Starr has donated autographed memorabilia to be raffled off at the Friday, April 21st Blizzard game against the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz.

A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Starr knows full well the effect that the storms had on the Gulf Coast. While the damage to the central part of the state was not as severe as it was along the coast, many evacuees were temporarily housed in the area. Having the victims so close brought home the immediacy and severity of the situation, and like much of the nation, Starr was compelled to do what he could to help.

Starr has donated an autographed Packers helmet and an autographed Packers jersey, which will be raffled off at this Friday's game. Raffle tickets will be sold at $5.00 each, with the proceeds going to the Donald Driver Foundation for Hurricane Katrina Relief.

Blizzard General Manager Jim Kraft believes that the upcoming event will be a great success. "This is really starting to pick up speed," he said. "When we first started this benefit, we thought it would do well, but then Donald Driver got involved, and Piggly Wiggly, and Morning Glory Dairy, and now Bart Starr is on board. That's a lot of support from some very influential people and organizations. I think that we're going to be able to do a lot of good."

The benefit will take place at the Blizzard game against the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz this Friday, April 21st. The game will feature a special appearance by the Southern University Marching Band, who will perform the National Anthem before kickoff, and then perform again at halftime and after the game.
