Gateway Grizzlies News Release
SAUGET, Ill. - The Grizzlies have brought back right-handed pitchers Richard Barrett and Dejai Oliver for the upcoming 2015 season. Barrett, 27, returns for his sixth season in the Frontier League after recording a career-high 19 saves in 2014. Barrett began his professional baseball career with Gateway in 2010 and has spent the last four full seasons with the Grizzlies.
"I'm coming back for another year to help bring a championship to Gateway," said Barrett, who has 51 saves in his Frontier League career. "I'm excited to get another chance to be the best because Gateway always has that ability."
Grizzlies' ninth-year manager Phil Warren said that Barrett will get a chance to leave the bullpen and move into the starting rotation in 2015.
"Richard wants to win a title with us and it's hard to find someone so committed to our organization," said Warren, who added that Barrett has prepared for a starter's role this offseason with his training regimen. "It's going to be exciting to see what he can do and I hope the best for him," he said.
Oliver, 24, will be back in a Grizzlies' uniform for a second straight year. Gateway signed the Orlando, Fla. native before the 2014 campaign after he spent three seasons in the Miami Marlins' organization.
"I miss competing and it's awesome to go back to a place that knows you," said Oliver, who was the Opening Day starter for the Grizzlies last year. "I've really worked on my control this offseason and my hope is to come out throwing strikes," he said.
Oliver finished the 2014 season on a high note, allowing only one earned run in his final 14 innings of work.
Single-game, group, and season tickets are on sale now. Call the Grizzlies' ticket office at (618) 337-3000.
