Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Birmingham Barons took the second game of the four-game series from the visiting Orlando Rays with a 5-4 victory on Wednesday afternoon in front of 3,264 fans at the Hoover Met.

For the second game in a row, the Barons trailed three different times in the game but were able to fight back and win in the end. In the bottom of the eleventh with the Barons trailing 4-3, Eric Battersby led off with a single to start the rally. After Ryan Hankins flied out, Jonathan Aceves, Guillermo Reyes and Scott Bikowski hit three consecutive singles off of reliever Alex Santos to drive home the tying and game-winning runs. On the day, the Barons connected for 11 hits, all singles, to register their first double-digit hit total in their last 10 games.

The O-Rays had leads of 1-0, 3-1 and 4-3 but couldn't hold onto them as the Barons scrapped to come from behind several times to pick up their third straight win. Barons starter Enemencio Pacheco made his first start of the season after moving to the rotation and threw five solid innings but got a no decision after giving up just one unearned run on four hits.

Barons reliever Tetsu Yofu (1-1) picked up his first win of the season after tossing three innings and giving up just one unearned run and O-Rays reliever Alex Santos (1-1) took the loss after surrendering two runs on five hits over 1.1 innings.

After the game it was announced that Yofu had been promoted to class Triple-A Charlotte of the International League. No corresponding Barons roster move has been made as of yet.

The Barons continue the four-game series with game three tomorrow evening at 7:00 PM. Birmingham sends out LHP Corwin Malone (1-1, 4.19) to face Orlando's RHP Jose Veras (0-1, 0.90).
