Mobile, Ala. â Danny Bravo joined the Mobile BayBears Tuesday and made his first start not a moment too soon. Bravo launched a Pedro Liriano pitch well over the wall in right field for a three-run homerun, giving the BayBears the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the sixth. Mobile went on to win game two of their four-game series against Huntsville, 6-3.
Bravo was 2-for-4 on the afternoon, scoring three runs and driving in three. Bravo was recalled from Single-A Lake Elsinore, taking the roster spot of Mobile second baseman, Jake Gautreau, who is on the seven-day disabled list.
Huntsville held a 2-0 lead, thanks to single runs in the second and fourth innings, heading into the bottom of the fifth. Bravo led off by reaching on an error and, after advancing to second on a wild pitch and third on a passed ball, he scored on an infield groundout by R.D. Smith.
In the sixth, the first two BayBears hitters were retired by Liriano. Then after Rich Gomez walked and stole second Jon Knott was intentionally passed, bringing Bravo to the plate. Entering the game Mobile was hitting .198 with runners in scoring position and two outs. Bravo brought that number up with his first homerun with the BayBears. Smith added two more Mobile runs in the bottom of the eighth, hitting his first homer of the season, a two-run shot to left.
Mobile starter, Roger Deago (2-0) earned the win as he threw six innings allowing two runs and five hits while striking out three. Closer, Rusty Tucker picked up his fifth save, in as many tries, as he got the final four outs, allowing one run in the ninth.
Game three of the series will be Thursday night at 7:05. RHP Steve Watkins (1-1; 2.18) will start on the mound for Mobile against Huntsville's RHP Ben Diggins (1-1; 1.46). As with every Thursday BayBears home game, 50-cent beverages will be served at Hank Aaron Stadium.
