Birmingham, ALA âThe Orlando Rays struggles continued Wednesday, falling 5-4 in 11 innings to the host Birmingham Barons, dropping their sixth straight game.
Alex Santos (1-1) took the loss for the Rays after allowing two earned runs on five hits in 1.1 IP. The Barons pushed across two runs in the bottom half of the 11th inning after the Rays had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the 11th. The blown 11th-inning lead was one of three squandered leads in the game, which included leads of 1-0 and 3-1.
Frank Moore, Matt Diaz and Amado German each had two hits for the Rays (7-13). Orlando pounded out 11 hits but stranded 10 runners on the day.
The series continues tomorrow at 8 p.m. ET with the Rays sending RHP Jose Veras (0-1, 0.90) to the mound to face Birmingham LHP Corwin Malone (1-1, 4.19).
