BayBears fall in series opener

Mobile, Ala. The Mobile BayBears were down 4-0 before an out was recorded in their game Tuesday night against Huntsville. Those four runs proved to be enough as the BayBears dropped game one of their four-game series with the Stars, 6-3. Mobile starter, Chris Rojas, walked the first three hitters of the game before allowing a disputed grand slam to Huntsvilles Corey Hart.
Homeplate umpire, Jeff Spisak, called the ball fair. No sooner than his hand went up, the BayBears defenders down the left field line were pleading with homeplate umpire Jeff Spisak, to change his call, to no avail. Mobile manager, Craig Colbert, interrupted the discussion to take over the conversation. Colbert was ejected shortly there after. Rojas (1-1) settled down after the blast, not allowing another run in his four innings. However, the BayBears offense couldn't dig them out of the hole. Mobile scored single runs in the second, eighth and ninth but let many opportunities slip by. The BayBears had the bases loaded in the second and fourth innings and scored only one run. Mobile did have a couple of bright spots in the game. Todd Donovan crushed a tape measure, solo homerun in the bottom of the eighth and Rico Washington, who reached base all four times up and drove in one run. The BayBears (8-11) will host the Stars (11-8) Wednesday morning as they host a businesspersons special at Hank Aaron Stadium. Left-hander Roger Deago (1-0; 1.76) will start for Mobile against Huntsvilles righty Pedro Liriano (1-2; 4.20). First pitch at The Hank is set for 11:35.
