CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Barons starting pitcher Simon Castro threw a gem of a game, notching seven strikeouts and yielding just one run in seven innings, to lead his team to a 4-2 over the Lookouts in Tuesday night action at AT&T Field.

Birmingham scored the first run of the game in the second inning. With two outs already on the board, Damaso Espino singled. Lookouts starting pitcher Aaron Miller (1-1) then appeared to pick off Espino; however, his throw to first was deemed a balk, and Espino advanced to second. The Barons capitalized on the miscue, as Justin Greene doubled to bring home Espino.

Miller found himself in even more trouble in the fifth frame by walking three batters to load the bases before being replaced by Blake Johnson on the mound. Former Lookout Corey Smith then hit a sacrifice fly to right field, which resulted in a beautiful throw by right fielder Blake Smith to the plate; however, catcher Matt Wallach was unable to hold onto the ball, and Greene was able to slide in safely. Johnson then threw a wild pitch, which allowed Drew Garcia to score.

After a rather soporific offensive effort through six innings, the Lookouts' bats finally came to life in the seventh inning. Blake Smith led off the inning with a double and eventually made his way to third on a fielding error by Smith at third base. Luis Nunez followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Lookouts their first run of the game.

With Simon Castro (1-1) out of the game after a great performance, the Lookouts' bats greeted reliever Brandon Kloess with alacrity. Wallach led off with a single and advanced to third on a subsequent Rafael Ynoa double. After an Anthony Jackson sacrifice fly that plated Wallach and pushed Ynoa to third, the Lookouts looked primed to at least tie the game with just one out recorded. Buss followed with a ground out to first baseman Andy Wilkins, who went home on the play, throwing out Ynoa on a close play at the plate. The rally officially died when J.T. Wise lined out to Smith at third.

Birmingham added an insurance run in the top of the ninth on a triple by Greene, who was able to scamper home on the play due an errant throw by center fielder Anthony Jackson.

Ryan Kussmaul pitched a perfect ninth for the Barons to earn his first save of the season.
