Generals Shutout Braves 7-0, Win Second Straight

JACKSON, TENN. (APRIL 17, 2012) - The first place Generals (9-4) blanked the Mississippi Braves (4-9) on Tuesday night at Pringles Park, 7-0. Taijuan Walker and Jandy Sena combined for the three-hit shutout, the first of the 2012 season for Jackson. The Generals are the first to nine wins in the Southern League.

Walker (2-0) tossed six shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out seven and walking one. Sena earned a three inning save and surrendered just one hit and struck out one in his 2012 Generals debut. Braves No. 5 prospect Sean Gilmartin (0-2) suffered the loss.

At the plate, the Generals opened the scoring in the second inning. Jesus Sucre cleared the bases with a 3-RBI double to right-center placing Jackson on top 3-0. Two batters later, Gabriel Noriega plated Sucre with a single to right and Jackson led 4-0 after the second inning.

Jackson added another run in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Rich Poythress off the left field wall to make the score 5-0.

Joe Dunigan capped the scoring in the seventh inning with his third home run of the season and second in as many days. The 2-run blast to right made the final 7-0.

Dunigan has eight hits in the series and was 2-for-4 the homer, two RBI and two runs. Sucre was 2-for-4 with a double, run and three RBI. Poythress finished the night 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored.

The Generals continue their five-game series with the Mississippi Braves at Pringles Park on Tuesday night, with first pitch set for 11:05 a.m. CT. RHP Brandon Maurer makes the start for the Generals against RHP David Hale for Mississippi.
