Mississippi Braves News Release

Jackson, TN - The Mississippi Braves bats were cold for the second straight night, getting just four hits in a 7-0 loss to the Jackson Generals on a chilly Tuesday night at Pringles Park.

Taijuan Walker, the #1 prospect in the Seattle Mariners' organization, was hard to hit all night, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out seven in six innings. He outdueled Braves' left-handed prospect Sean Gilmartin, who allowed five runs on nine hits in six innings in the loss.

The Braves (4-9) spread out four hits between Adam Milligan, Christian Bethancourt, Ian Gac and Mycal Jones.

Jackson (9-4) rattled off six straight hits to start the bottom of the second, loading the bases on three singles by Rich Poythress, Johermyn Chavez and Francisco Martinez. Catcher Jesus Sucre then lined a double to right-center, clearing the bases and claiming a 3-0 lead over his former team. Two batters later, Gabriel Noriega scored Sucre with a single to put the Generals up 4-0.

In the fifth inning, Poythress doubled to score Joe Dunigan with two outs, extending the lead to 5-0.

Dunigan hit his second home run in as many days, a two-out, two-run shot to right in the seventh off of reliever Richard Sullivan to grow the lead to 7-0.

The Braves and Generals square off in game four on Wednesday at 11:05 AM. RHP David Hale (1-1, 7.04 ERA) battles Jackson RHP Brandon Maurer (0-0, 5.00 ERA). Listen live on 103.9 FM WYAB, and online at MississippiBraves.com.
