Birmingham Barons News Release
Birmingham, AL - The Barons set season-highs with 14 runs and 17 hits Sunday afternoon highlighted by three home runs as the Barons defeated the Montgomery Biscuits 14-8 in front of fans at Riverwalk Stadium.
It was a back-and-forth affair early as the Barons overcame deficits of 3-0 and 5-4 to take an 8-6 lead in the fifth. Todd Glaesmann put the Biscuits up 3-0 with a three-run home run in the first inning against starter Scott Snodgress (4-1, 4.66) but the Barons would respond with a pair of runs in both the second and third innings highlighted by a Dan Black solo shot in the second.
The Biscuits would reclaim the lead in the third on an RBI double by Glaesmann and a run scoring single by Riccio Torrez. However, Barons refused to let their recent offensive struggles continue as they would erupt for four runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth. A Michael Blanke three-run homer, his first of the season, highlighted the four-run fifth. Black also came through in the inning with an RBI single and finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI on the day.
In the sixth, Trayce Thompson broke out of a recent slump with a booming three-run jack to left. Michael Earley and Blanke would follow with RBI hits as the Barons extended the lead to 13-6. Thompson finished with three hits on the afternoon going 3-for-6 with three runs scored and three RBI.
Snodgress was the beneficiary of the offensive explosion, picking up his league-leading fourth victory of the season despite allowing six runs on nine hits and striking out three over 5.0 innings.
Every player in the Barons lineup had at least one hit in the game while six players recorded multi-hit games on the day and seven of nine drew at least one walk. Keenyn Walker also stole his team-leading 11th bag of the season.
With the win, the Barons improved to 14-10 on the year while Montgomery fell to 13-11.
The Barons will look for their second series victory in a row tomorrow morning as RHP Stephen McCray (3-1, 2.57) takes the hill against RHP Victor Mateo (1-2, 7.20). First pitch is scheduled for 10:35 AM CDT.
