Mississippi Braves News Release

Huntsville, AL - The Mississippi Braves' offense rolled and Alex Wood set a team record for consecutive scoreless innings on Saturday night to help the Mississippi Braves pound the Huntsville Stars 14-0 at Joe Davis Stadium.

With his five shutout innings, Wood has pitched 18.2 consecutive scoreless, breaking Tommy Hanson's 2008 Mississippi Braves record of 17.2 straight.

On offense, the Braves (13-10) pummeled starter Taylor Jungmann (1-4) for 8 runs, 7 earned, on five hits, chasing him after just 2.2 innings. Mississippi scored six runs in the top of the second to set the tone early, including a Barrett Kleinknecht three-run home run, his second in four games, and a Mycal Jones two-run double.

They grew their lead to 8-0 in the third when Emerson Landoni singled in Jones, then scored on an error by third baseman Shea Vucinich, his first of three errors on the day. Landoni had a great day at the plate, going 3-for-4 while driving in two.

The Braves entered Saturday's game last in the league in home runs with just seven through 22 games, but Edward Salcedo and Christian Marrero joined Kleinknecht in hitting roundtrippers to help the winning cause.

Erik Hamren and Chasen Shreve slammed the door shut on the Stars (9-14) in relief, allowing just one hit and facing the minimum over the final four innings.

The Braves now look to take their third consecutive series as they face the Stars in game four of a five game series Sunday afternoon at 4:03 PM CT. Right-hander Gus Schlosser (1-1, 6.06 ERA) takes the baseball for the Braves against Stars' right-hander and Atlanta native Andy Moye (1-1, 4.34). Listen live with Kyle Tait on the call beginning at 3:50 PM CT with the "Countdown to First Pitch" on 103.9 WYAB and online at MississippiBraves.com.
