Barons Rocked By Biscuits In 8-1 Loss

August 11, 2018 - Southern League (SL1)
Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After a historic night at the plate on Friday, the Birmingham Barons (56-61) were stifled offensively in an 8-1 loss to the Montgomery Biscuits (65-53) on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium. The win clinches a series victory for the Biscuits and puts them 4.5 games ahead of the Barons for first place in the North Division standings.

Turning Point: The Biscuits were the ones to get off to a hot start on this night after falling behind early on Friday. With two outs in the first, Barons starter Kodi Medeiros (L, 7-7) walked Nick Solak. Michael Brosseau followed with a two-run homer to right-center, giving the home team a lead it wouldn't relent.

Moments That Mattered: Medeiros kept the game close until the fourth, when Danny De La Calle's single scored two runs to double the Montgomery lead. An inning later, David Rodriguez put the game out of reach for the Biscuits with a three-run homer off Medeiros, effectively ending his night.

Facts And Figures: In his third start with the Barons, Medeiros struggled, giving up seven earned runs on eight hits with four walks and eight strikeouts to suffer his second straight loss. In relief, Brian Clark gave up a run over 1.1 innings. Jose Ruiz then tossed 2.0 scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

By The Numbers: The Barons didn't produce much of a threat offensively, recording seven hits in the loss. Mitch Roman was the only Baron to record a multi-hit game by going 2-for-4 with a double. Zack Collins led off the ninth with a single and came home to score the only Birmingham run on a two-out balk.

Up Next: The Barons and Biscuits conclude the season series with a 5:05 p.m. matchup on Sunday. Southpaw Bernardo Flores (2-3, 2.50) is set to start for the Barons. Curt Bloom will have the call on 960 WERC News Radio and the iHeart Radio app.
