Barons Launch Three Homers to Take Opening Night

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Birmingham Barons (1-0) crushed three home runs - two from Jaime Pedroza - in a 9-2 win over the Biscuits (0-1) on Opening Night at Riverwalk Stadium on Thursday night.

Pedroza's first home run came with one out in the second inning. The solo shot gave the Barons a 3-1 lead. Two batters later, Johnson ripped a two-run blast to make it a 5-1 game. Pedroza's second solo home run came in the fourth, making it 6-1.

The Biscuits scored their first run of the game in the first inning with a groundball from Richie Shaffer that scored Willie Argo to make it 2-1. Argo then hit a bases-empty-blast in the fifth making the score 8-1 Barons.

Chris Beck (1-0) picked up the win for Birmingham, going five innings and holding the Biscuits to two runs on four hits.

The Biscuits' bullpen had a strong showing. Braulio Lara, Andrew Bellatti, Jake Thompson and Matt Ramsey combined to throw 4.1 innings and only allow one run.

Argo finished the game 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

The Biscuits will take on the Barons in game two of the series Friday night at 7:05. Rays' Minor League Pitcher of the Year, RHP Dylan Floro will make his double-A-debut while the Barons will send RHP Myles Jaye to the hill.
