
Braves Drop Opening Night Contest 6-2

PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves dropped its opening night contest to the Mobile BayBears by a final score of 6-2 in front of a crowd of 5,132 at Trustmark Park. Atlanta Braves lefty Mike Minor went two innings in a rehab appearance with the Double-A Braves. He struck out five batters despite giving up three earned runs on four hits including a solo homer.
Mississippi (0-1) scored two runs on four hits while Mobile (1-0) plated six runs on nine hits. David Peralta went 3-for-5 at the plate for the BayBears. Peralta drove in two runs and scored twice. Jordan Parraz also had two hits.
Minor struck out the first two batters before Jake Lamb homered to left field. Parraz followed with a triple down the right field line and Peralta delivered a RBI-single to put the BayBears out front 2-0. Jon Griffin then doubled to left, making it a 3-0 game.
Lamb walked and Parraz singled to start the top of the third. Peralta then hit a ground-rule double, driving home Lamb and extending the BayBears lead to 4-0.
In the fourth, Lars Davis walked and moved to second on sacrifice bunt. Justin Greene later delivered a two-out, run-scoring single to left field to make it a 5-0 game.
Peralta led off the eighth with a double to left field. Sean Jamieson and Davis both walked with to load the bases. Another walk to Tom Belza allowed Peralta to score, giving Mobile a 6-0 lead over the Braves.
The M-Braves finally got on the board in the eighth. Cedric Hunter delivered a pinch-hit single and Matt Lipka walked. A passed ball allowed both runners to advance before an Emerson Landoni ground out drove home Hunter, making it a 6-1 game.
Mississippi added another run in the ninth to make it 6-2. Seth Loman singled and took second on defensive indifference. He moved over to third and scored on back-to-back ground outs.
Minor (0-1) took the loss. He gave up three earned runs on four hits and a homer while fanning five batters in two frames. Chase Anderson (1-0) picked up the win for Mobile. He worked six innings, allowing just one hit while striking out six batters.
In game two of this five-game series, M-Braves right-hander Jason Hursh counters BayBears lefty Andrew Chafin. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
