Barons Host Birmingham-Southern College in Exhibition

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Two days prior to opening up the Southern League regular season, the Birmingham Barons are set to host Birmingham-Southern College April 7 at 6 p.m. at Regions Field for the team's annual preseason exhibition game.

The intra-city contest pins the Barons against the 2014 Southern Athletic Association champion Panthers - who are currently ranked 10th in NCAA Division III by D3baseball.com. Lead by Head Coach Jan Weisberg, BSC is 11-0 on the season.

"Over the years we have hosted numerous pre-season exhibition games with local schools that have provided their student athletes a great experience in playing against a professional baseball team," Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson said. "We are proud to partner with Birmingham Southern College and look forward to hosting their students, faculty, administration and alumni at Regions Field April 7."

The Barons are 1-0 all-time against the Panthers, taking a 2-1 decision April 2, 2002, against a then-Division I BSC team. Birmingham-Southern went on to win more than 30 games that season while the Barons were crowned Southern League champion for the 13th time in franchise history.

"We are very excited about the opportunity the Barons have given us to play at Regions Field," Weisberg said. "This will be an exciting night for our players to be able to play the Barons. Regions Field and the Birmingham Barons have done so much for our community, and we thank them for allowing us to be a part of a great night."

Last year's exhibition saw Birmingham defeat Miles College 5-0 in seven innings, as the Golden Bears became the first collegiate team to face the Barons at Regions Field.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for high school and middle school students, and children 12-year-old and under are free. The game is also included in the Barons season ticket package.
