Oklahoma City Barons News Release
The Barons look for their third straight win during a 3 games in 3 nights stretch as they take on the Milwaukee Admirals (Nashville Predators). It's the third of 6 meetings between these West Division rivals and the first in Milwaukee. The Barons took the first 2 games between the clubs last month at the Cox Center by 5-2 and 4-1 scores to wrap up an 8-game homestand. After a 6-5 OT win in Rockford last night, OKC remains third in the division with 36 points, 1 behind Peoria and 5 back of San Antonio. Milwaukee is tied for fourth, 2 points back of OKC.
ON THE MOVE: On Wednesday, Edmonton recalled center Ryan O'Marra and winger Linus Omark from the Barons. They replaced Shawn Horcoff (knee) and Ales Hemsky (groin) on the Oilers' active roster. The Barons recalled left winger Jesse Gimblett from ECHL Stockton and center Dave Bonk from Allen of the CHL. Gimblett played 15 games for Stockton, recording 5 goals and 3 assists. Bonk, who previously played 1 game for the Barons Oct. 15, was signed to his second PTO of the season. Bonk has 6 goals and 15 assists in 16 CHL games.
MAKING AN IMPRESSION: Former Barons Linus Omark and Ryan O'Marra each recorded assists in their Oiler season debuts on Friday, while Omark sealed a 4-3 Edmonton victory with a goal as the final entrant in the shootout. It was Omark's NHL debut. At the time of his recall on Wednesday, he was OKC's leading point scorer with 26. Omark's shootout goal contained a 360-spin as he picked up the puck and has been among the topics of conversation in the sports and hockey world.
PK NUMBER 1: The Barons own the AHL's top penalty killing percentage at 89.4. In the past 5 games, the Barons have killed 32 of their last 34 times short.
DIVISIONAL DOINGS: The Barons are 8-2-0-1 against teams from the North Division and 8-6-1-2 vs. the West. OKC's 16 wins are also evenly split between home (8-5-1-2) and road games (8-3-0-1). The Barons have won 4 out of 5 (4-1-0-0) on the road vs. West opponents.
LIAM REDDOX, CHART TOPPER: Liam Reddox took the club lead in goals with 14 on a shorthanded tally to open last night's scoring. He's in a 3-way tie for the AHL lead in shorthanded goals with 4. He's scored the first goal of a game 5 times, matching Springfield's Mike Blunden for the league lead in that category. Reddox is part of a 3-way tie for the AHL lead in unassisted goals with 3.
ALL STAR ALEX: Alexandre Giroux, the AHL's leading scorer each of the past 2 seasons, had 3-game goal and 4-game point streaks snapped last night at Rockford. Giroux was awarded the Barons' first penalty shot 14 seconds into last night's overtime when he was fouled on a breakaway. The shot was stopped by the Icehogs' Alec Richards. For the season, AHL players have attempted 17 penalty shots and scored 5 goals. On Friday, Giroux was named by league president David Andrews one of the two playing captains for the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Capital BlueCross, to be held Jan. 30-31 at Giant Center in Hershey, Pa. Giroux won back-to-back Calder Cups as a Hershey Bear the past 2 seasons.
ODDS AND ENDS: Jeff Petry has a goal in 3 straight games and points in 4 straight (6 points total)...Petry is tied with several players for the third-most points by a rookie and shares the AHL lead in points by a defenseman with 20...Petry is +5 in the last 3 games and +9 in the past 12 games. Colin McDonald matched his career high for goals in a season with his 13th last night...his standard was set last year with 12 for Springfield and 1 for Edmonton...Martin Gerber is 9-0-0-1 in his last 10 AHL starts dating to Oct. 24...in those starts he has a 2.04 GAA and a .931 save percentage.
