Barons Fall Again, 6-2
Published on July 2, 2009 under Southern League (SL1)
Birmingham Barons News Release
The Barons tried to make a game of it Thursday night at Regions Park, but it wasn't meant to be, as they dropped a second-straight to Mobile 6-2.
Kyle McCulloch (6-8, 4.59) went through the first three innings and allowed just three earned runs through six innings. But the right hander got himself into trouble in the seventh inning when he allowed three hits and two runs before being replaced by Matt Zaleski with runners on the corners. Zaleski immediately allowed a run-scoring ground-rule double that capped the scoring for the BayBears and closed out McCulloch's line. He finished with six runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings as the Barons trailed 6-0.
The Barons would add a run in the seventh and eighth inning, including Stefan Gartrell's 15th home run of the season, before stranding a pair of base runners in the ninth inning.
The teams will finish their series Friday night with a 6:05 PM start time. Charlie Shirek will face Wes Roemer in the finale. Fireworks will follow the game.
