Shell promoted to Tacoma, Pena activated from DL

JACKSON, TENN. (JULY 2, 2009) - The Seattle Mariners have announced the following roster moves affecting the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx.

RHP Luis Pena has been activated from the DL. Pena was placed on the DL on April 14th with shoulder tightness after making one start and leaving after 2.0 innings pitched. Pena made 3 rehab appearances for the AZL Mariners in Peoria, AZ. He was 2-0 in 3 outings (1 start) with a 1.50 ERA in 12.0 innings. Pena rejoins the team and is activated for tonight's game with Mississippi. Pena was claimed off waivers by Seattle from Milwaukee on February 14th of this year.

RHP Steven Shell has been promoted to Triple-A Tacoma, which will make his second stint with the Rainers this year. Shell was designated for assignment by Washington on April 20th after making four appearances for the Nationals. Shell appeared in 5 games for the Jaxx, 3 starts and was 3-0. In 21 innings, Shell allowed just one earned run and recorded a 0.43 ERA. Shell was signed by Seattle in May and joined the Diamond Jaxx on June 11th in Carolina.
