Birmingham Barons News Release

The Barons dropped the first game of their homestand against the Trash Pandas 6-5.

Birmingham starter Scott Blewett got off to a shaky start. The righty allowed one run in each of the first two innings. In the first frame, Zach Humphreys tripled as the second batter of the game. With Humphreys on third and one out, Orlando Martinez hit a ground ball to shortstop Jose Rodriguez. The throw was a bit tardy and Humphreys slid in safely. Then in the second inning, Ryan Aguillar jacked his third homer of the season to make it 2-0.

Rocket City tacked on two more in the fourth. Kevin Maitan poked an RBI single into center field. That advanced Aguillar to third. Maitan was thrown out at second on a double play off the bat of Bryce Teodosio.

It took the Barons until the bottom half of the fourth to register their first hit, and it came from Lenyn Sosa to right center field for his seventh home run of the season. That cut the deficit to 4-1. Craig Dedelow followed suit with his ninth long ball of the year in the fifth inning.

Home runs were kind to the Barons. Sosa smacked his second homer of the night in the sixth to tie the game at four apiece. Tyler Neslony went back-to-back with Sosa with a homer to right field to seize Birmingham's first lead of the night at 5-4.

The Trash Pandas won the game off a two-run single from Zach Humphreys up the middle in the top of the eighth inning off of Sammy Peralta.

Tomorrow's first pitch is at 11 a.m. LHP Steven Moyers (3-2, 4.78) will start for Birmingham. Rocket City is going with Brent Killam (1-2, 9.82).
