"We are very excited and honored to have a large number of former Negro League players as part of the Southern League All Star Game," Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson said. "Honoring these legends prior to our game will be very special. I'm confident that seeing these men take the field with the current, modern-day players will be a moment that every All-Star player, coach and fan will remember for a long time."

In conjunction, with the Negro League celebration, the American Negro League Baseball Association will hold a silent auction in the Regions Park concourse during the All-Star Game. Proceeds from the memorabilia auctioned will be donated to the American Negro League Legends Youth Academy.

The American Negro League Legends Youth Academy was designed to provide children not just with the athletic skills necessary to be successful on a baseball field, but also the skills necessary to be successful in life. Through a strong mentorship program, the Academy provides life-enhancing skills in the areasof academia, entrepreneurship, and computers. A number of kids involved with the Academy will be in attendance that evening to represent the program.

"We are honored to participate in the 2009 Southern League All-Star Game festivities," American Negro League Baseball Association Public Relations/Project Coordinator Ora Jerald said. "The heart of the Legends Youth Academy is to see the Negro League players' legacy extend to the future generations. Our relationship with the present day players is significant to bridge that gap."
