Barnstormers Sign Defensive Back

DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers have signed defensive back Michael Sam to the 2022 roster, Head Coach Dave Mogensen announced today.

Sam (6-1, 195, Louisiana Tech) joins the Iowa Barnstormers for his first season in the Indoor Football League. Sam began his collegiate career at Trinity Valley Community College collecting 71 total tackles, five interceptions, and 16 pass breakups in his two seasons with the team before transferring to Louisiana Tech. In his two seasons with the Bulldogs Sam appeared in 24 games where he collected 51 total tackles, one tackle for loss, eight pass breakups, and three interceptions.

"We had a need for another DB due to some roster fluctuation and Michael's film really jumped out compared to some of the available guys," said Coach Mogensen. "We think he will come in and push right away for a spot on the field along with being a great special teams player."

The Iowa Barnstormers are on the road to face the Green Bay Blizzard on Friday, May 20 at the Resch Center in Green Bay at 7:05PM. This is the first game in a back-to-back series as the Barnstormers will return to Wells Fargo Arena on Friday, May 27 to once again face the Blizzard. Kickoff is set for 7:05PM.
