Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers have their schedule for 2017, the 13th Atlantic League season at Clipper Magazine Stadium, it has been announced by league officials.
Once again, the Barnstormers will begin their quest for a third Atlantic League title on the road, this time with a four-game, three-day series at Somerset starting on Friday, April 21. Following an off day on April 24, the Barnstormers will travel to New Britain for a three-game set. Finally, on Friday, April 28, the doors will open on the new home season with the first of 70 games in Lancaster as the Barnstormers take on the defending league champion Sugar Land Skeeters that evening.
Fans can plan on 11 weekend series at Clipper Magazine Stadium. After the three games in April, the Barnstormers will host Atlantic League opponents for 12 games in May, 19 in June, only nine in July, 17 in August and 10 in September. The Barnstormers will be on the road for Memorial Day and will celebrate the Fourth of July on Sunday, the 2nd. They will take on Somerset at home on Labor Day.
Lancaster's home season is set to close on Thursday, September 14 against Long Island. The Barnstormers will spend the final weekend of the regular season in York.
All eight Atlantic League franchises return from the 2016 campaign, but there are some structural changes to the schedule.
After making three trips to Sugar Land in 2016, the Barnstormers will return to making only two visits to Texas, a four-game set in May and a six-game series out of the All-Star Break in July.
As a result, the schedule is slightly unbalanced. The Barnstormers play Bridgeport and York 19 times apiece while taking on Somerset on 22 occasions, 14 of those at home.
"Now that we have our schedule in hand, we can begin to put together another great promotional schedule and start to line up groups for picnics and skybox events," said managing partner Rob Liss. "This is the first step to get ready for another great season."
The Atlantic League has been a leader in professional baseball and a gateway to Major League Baseball since 1998.
