
Barnstormer's Schmidt Named National Guard Week 1 MVP

CHICAGO - Iowa Barnstormers WR JESSE SCHMIDT has been named National Guard MVP of the Week for his performance in Week 1 of the 2012 AFL season, as voted on by fans.
Schmidt received 48 percent of the fans' votes on Facebook.com after hauling in 12 balls for 157 yards and four touchdowns in the Barnstormers' overtime victory against the Spokane Shock, 69-63, on Monday. Schmidt also added a rushing touchdown. Schmidt joins teammates Cameron McGlenn and Marco Thomas as week 1 award winners. Earlier in the week McGlenn was named JLS Defensive player of the week, while Thomas received the Cutter's Catch of the week award.
The home portion of the Barnstormers schedule begins this Saturday, March 17 when the Utah Blaze come to town. The game is sponsored by Prairie Meadows and the first 5,000 fans through the gates will receive a free magnet schedule courtesy of Maier Tree Care.
