Iowa's Schmidt Voted Week 1 National Guard MVP

CHICAGO - Iowa Barnstormers WR JESSE SCHMIDT has been named National Guard MVP of the Week for his performance in Week 1 of the 2012 AFL season, as voted on by fans.
Schmidt received 48 percent of the fans' votes on Facebook.com after hauling in 12 balls for 157 yards and four touchdowns in the Barnstormers' overtime victory against the Spokane Shock, 69-63, on Monday. Schmidt also added a rushing touchdown.
The Barnstormers (1-0) face the Utah Blaze (0-1) in Week 2 on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 8:05 pm ET on Ustream's "AFL Live Viewer."
Other candidates for the award included Chicago QB Russ Michna and Georgia WR Larry Shipp.
