Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Lancaster Barnstormers continue to get dominant pitching against non-Atlantic League foes as six pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout over 10 innings to beat the traveling Black Sox squad, 8-0, Friday afternoon at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Tommy Shirley and Rommie Lewis each fired three shutout innings for the Barnstormers on Friday with Lewis allowing an infield single on a sharp comebacker. Nate Reed, Anthony Carter, Kevin Munson and R.J. Hively each tossed one scoreless frame as Lancaster's staff combined for its second straight two-hitter. Hively yielded a one-out single in the 10th.

The sextet combined to strike out 14 batters over the 10 innings of work, with Shirley fanning seven in his three-inning stint.

Lancaster plated its first run in the opening inning. Trayvon Robinson grounded a two-out single up the middle and was able to race home on Sean Halton's fly ball down the right field line that bounced in for a triple.

The 'Stormers would not score again until the sixth. Halton grounded a two-out double inside the bag at third and scored on Garrett Weber's single rolled through the left side. A third run scored in the seventh inning. Darian Sandford was hit by a pitch, stole second and third and strode home on a wild pitch.

Five more runs scored in the bonus tenth frame in which the Barnstormers sent hitters to the plate in seemingly random order. Anderson De La Rosa clubbed a three-run homer to left in the inning. Jeff Kobernus and Blake Gailen chimed in with RBI singles.

NOTES: The Barnstormers host the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, their first Atlantic League spring foe, on Saturday afternoon at 1:00...Gates open at noon...The full club will be available for autographs from 12:00-12:30...Infielder/outfielder Rico Noel was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning and taken out of the game but is expected to miss very little, if any, action.
