
Barnstormers Iced out by Blizzard

A dominant offense helped push the Green Bay Blizzard (4-4) past The Iowa Barnstormers (4-3) on Friday, June 25th with a 48-44ÃÂ final score in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
A fumble recovery made by defensive back David Haney in the first quarter helped give the Barnstormers a chance to score right away. Quarterback Daquan Neal found wide receiver Carrington Thompson in the endzone and put the Barnstormers up over the Blizzard, 7-0, with 10:53 left in the first quarter. Green Bay was able to quickly answer as quarterback Brook Bolles rushed for 1-yard to finish the play. Kicker Jeff Budzein completed the extra point and tied the game 7-7 with 5:50 left in the quarter. With 3:26 left in the first quarter, defensive back Momodou Mbye was able to find the end zone after an interception and put the Blizzard up 13-7. The Barnstormers had one more chance to score in the quarter and were successful. Neal found the endzone and put the Barnstormers up 14-13 going into the second quarter after a successful PAT by kicker Gabriel Rui.
The second quarter started off with a Blizzard touchdown. A 32-yard pass from Bolles to wide receiver Keyondre Craig gave Green Bay a 20-14 lead over Iowa with 11:57 left in the second quarter. An interception by defensive back Corey Turner put Green Bay back in scoring position. Bolles rushed for 9-yards to put the Blizzard up 27-14 after a completed PAT. The Barnstormers were able to refocus and Neal was able to find Thompson for the touchdown. PAT was good and with 5:23 left in the half, Green Bay led the Barnstormers 27-21. One play later, Bolles threw to wide receiver Keshaun Taylor for 35-yards to extend the Blizzard's lead to 34-21 with 4:10 left in the second quarter. With less than a minute left in the quarter, running back Elad Covaliu found the endzone for a Barnstormers touchdown. The extra point was good and the Barnstormers trailed 34-28 going into the second half.
The Barnstormers had the ball to start the second half. With 4:50 left in the third quarter, Rui attempted a 43-yard field goal to put the Barnstormers within three. The rest of the quarter was slow on both ends and neither offense was able to find the end zone. Going into the fourth quarter, Barnstormers trailed 34-31.
To start the fourth quarter, Green Bay scored a field goal, extending their lead 37-31 with 14:57 left in the game. With 13:07 left in the game, Neal found Thompson for an the Blizzard. Responding right away, Green Bay scored a touchdown and completed a two-point conversion taking back the lead 45-38 with 12:00 remaining in the game. With less than a minute left to play, Green Bay scored a field goal from the 17-yard line, once again extending their lead 48-38. With :13 left in the game, the Barnstormers found the endzone to put them just behind the Blizzard, 48-44. A huge fumble recovery by Iowa with :09 left in the game gave them one final chance to score. The Blizzard defense was too much for the Barnstormers and they ended victorious with a final score of 48-44.
The Iowa Barnstormers will go on a bye week and return to play the Frisco Fighters on the road in Frisco, Texas on July 9th at 7:05 p.m. CST.
