Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Lancaster Barnstormers completed their brief spring training schedule with an 8-7 win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Thursday afternoon, thanks to Kody Kirkland's "walkoff" home run.

Trailing, 7-5, entering the bottom of the ninth, the Barnstormers got the winning rally started when Fehlandt Lentini stroked a double down the left field line off Bryan Dumesnil. Brad Boyer was drilled by a pitch to put the tying run on base, and Kirkland lofted his winning blast onto the picnic tents beyond the right field wall for the win.

Terry Tiffee's RBI single in the first scored Adam Godwin for an early 1-0 lead, which the Barnstormers extended with a four-run fifth. Jamie Pedroza singled home Boyer and stole second. Eduardo Perez filled in first base on a walk. A single to right by Francisco Hernandez gave Lancaster a 3-0 lead, and both runners were able to advance another base when the ball skipped past Richard Giannotti for an error.

Godwin plated two more with a double to right.

Southern Maryland tied the game with five unearned runs in the sixth inning. Tiffee mishandled a potential double play grounder to third for one error, and Matt Padgett followed with a single to break up the shutout. Perez made a wide throw to second attempting a force play on a grounder by Mike Daniel as a second run scored. Christian Lopez knocked home a third run with a sac fly, and Giannotti tied the game with a homer to right.

Casey Benjamin cracked a two-run homer to right center in the seventh for a 7-5 lead.

Recent transplant to Lancaster Will Krasne earned the win with a scoreless ninth inning.
