Barnstormers Fall to Storm

DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers (3-11) fell to the Sioux Falls Storm (9-5) in a back-to-back matchup at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, July 8.

Sioux Falls struck first with a touchdown from Bryson Denley taking the 7-0 lead. The Iowa Barnstormers responded with a score from Laquvionte Gonzalez on a 6-yard pass, but a missed extra point kept the Barnstormers behind, 7-6. The Storm answered back with a pass from quarterback Lorenzo Brown to receiver Brandon Shepard, increasing the lead 13-6. The Barnstormers started out strong in the second quarter with two successful field goals from kicker Gabriel Rui, 13-12. Lorenzo Brown rushed in for another Storm touchdown, 20-12. The Storm's attempt at an onside kick was picked up by Barnstormers receiver Dom McNeil and returned for a touchdown, 20-19. With seconds remaining in the half, the Storm was able to solidify their lead with a touchdown, 27-19.

The Barnstormers started the second half with a touchdown as quarterback Daniel Smith found receiver Richy Anderson in the end zone closing the gap, 27-25. The Storm responded with a touchdown as Brown found his way into the endzone, 33-25. The Barnstormers responded as Wimbush made his way into the endzone, but the two-point conversion was unsuccessful, 33-31. Kicker Gabriel Rui with a deuce, making it a tie ball game 33-33.

The Storm score right away in the fourth quarter, 40-33. The Iowa Barnstormers respond as Wimbush rushes into the endzone, once again tying up the game 40-40. In the back and forth battle, both teams score again tying the game 47-47. With 20 seconds remaining in the game, the Sioux Falls Storm scores and secures the victory 54-47.
