Barnstormers Fall to Steamwheelers

The Iowa Barnstormers (9-7) fell to the Quad City Steamwheelers (9-7) on Friday night, 42-35.

Quad City opened up the game with a 29-yard field goal from Kimo Naehu. Iowa quickly responded with a touchdown pass from Darius-James Peterson to Kentrez Bell. Ed Smith returned the following kickoff for a touchdown, but Dave Calderon dove into the end zone to give Iowa a 14-10 lead.

The Steamwheelers cranked open the second quarter with another Naehu field goal and a defensive stop. EJ Hillard scored six more points with a rushing touchdown, and Naeuhu rewarded his team two more on the kickoff. The Barnstormers were held scoreless in the second quarter and trailed 14-21 heading into halftime.

Peterson leaped into the end zone to start the second half, but Steamwheeler RB Kerrion Moore snatched the lead back with a rushing touchdown of his own. Peterson threw another touchdown pass to Bell to tie the game at 28 heading into the final quarter.

Hillard helped Quad City regain the lead with a touchdown. Peterson connected with Bell for the third time to tie the game once again, but Keyvan Ruud's touchdown gave the Steamwheelers a 7 point lead with three minutes to go. The Barnstormers took over, looking for the tie or win, but Peterson was sacked in the final seconds. The Steamwheelers won the game 42-35.

With the loss, Iowa's playoff fate depends on the results of tomorrow night's matchups.
