Iowa Barnstormers News Release
The Iowa Barnstormers (6-6) fell to the Frisco Fighters (11-2) on Saturday night, 62-42.
Darius-James Peterson, Iowa quarterback, threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Kezlow Smith on the first possession of the game. It didn't take long for TJ Edwards, Frisco quarterback, to throw a touchdown pass of his own to WR Jerminic Smith and tie the game. RB Justin Rankin rushed in for a touchdown as time expired in the first quarter, giving the Fighters a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Frisco scored another touchdown to start the second quarter, but Iowa running back Antonio Wimbush was able to answer back with a rushing touchdown. Edwards rushed for another touchdown to give the Fighters six points. They were awarded another two when they tackled a Barnstormers player in the end zone, giving Frisco a 28-14 lead at the end of the first half.
The Barnstormers were awarded a point on the kickoff, but the Fighters answered quickly with a rushing touchdown from Rankin. Iowa WR Zac Parker was able to break free on the kickoff return to score a touchdown. However, a short kickoff by Rui gave the Fighters good field position and they were able to score. The Fighters led 48-29 heading into the fourth quarter.
Parker scored his second touchdown of the night to start the quarter. The Barnstormers continued their success when they recovered a fumble on the following kickoff, but Peterson threw an interception which resulted in a touchdown for the Fighters. Frisco then recovered an onside kick and reached the end zone again, giving them a 26 point lead with five minutes left in the game. They went on to win the game 62-42.
The Barnstormers will look to break .500 next week as they travel to Bismarck to face the Bucks (3-10) for the second time this season.
